We were threatened with prison for our acts of solidarity. But we refused to be intimidated and proved it in court: solidarity is not a crime! This acquittal was a clear and powerful signal! When we resist and stand together in solidarity, we can push back against criminalization, deterrence, and the erosion of space for solidarity! An important milestone, but not the end!

Our victory in court came at a price. We were forced to spend more than 800,000 euros on these proceedings and the defence of the civilian fleet. The Italian state takes neither financial nor political responsibility for its actions.

The IUVENTA was returned to us after the acquittal as a wreck. A once fully operational rescue ship, whose value far exceeded its market price, is now not even worth scrap. Here too, the Italian state, which seized the vessel and then spent 7 years doing nothing to maintain or protect it, takes no responsibility.

We are suing for financial compensation and we want to reclaim those hundreds of thousands of euros! Support us in doing so!

These donations were entrusted to us by you and tens of thousands of individual donors, to take action against the dying in the Mediterranean and against the criminalization of flight and of helping people flee! Not to cover the costs of an irresponsible prosecution and the destruction of our own ship!

We will use it to actively support sea rescue operations, with or without the Iuventa!

We will use it to support other defendants and strengthen their solidarity networks!

We will pursue accountability, and never stop being loud, inconvenient, and resistant!
